When the international Champions League of the bar community and high-calibre spirits dealers get together from 11 to 13 October, aspiring start-ups from various countries also want to be in the mix this year. Featuring among them will be industry newcomers from Lithuania and Greece as well as Columbia and Paraguay – read on for a foretaste of what lies ahead.

SV Summerville Gin – Holiday Feeling – Bottled

Unadulterated joie de vivre and summer feeling – this is what Ralph Cremona, founder of SV Summerville Gin, wants to exude with his creation. Eleven botanicals give this gin from Germany its inimitable flavour of St. John’s wort, lemon peel and cardamom. Exuding a sense that “there’s always summer somewhere” the air of sun, beach and light-heartedness is not only reflected by this gin’s fruity, berry taste but also by the brand’s modern look & feel. On top of this, SV Summerville Gin succeeded in entirely winning over the jury at the World Gin Awards 2021 and was nominated the winner of the Contemporary Gin category.

Lynch Organic Gin – Experience the Magic of Paraguay

Named after Irish emigrée Eliza Lynch, who became Paraguay’s “national heroine” in the late 1800s, this organic gin of the same name embodies the same unfaltering spirit: it has both a robust and supple taste at the same time. Made from sugar cane blended with ingredients like juniper berries, cedar, Yerba Mate and a variety of citrus fruits, the gin is designed to make the taste of Paraguay palpable.

Pakruojis Manor Distillery – Astonishing Variety of Taste and Creativity

At Lithuania’s first Craft Distillery “Spirits for free Spirits” are manufactured. The extraordinary range includes a Smokey Bacon Schnapps as well as schnaps from beetroot and horseradish. Over the past few years the company has already been awarded multiple prizes such as the “Best International Herbal Liqueur” Award for their thyme liqueur with honey and saffron at the American Distilling Institute Awards 2019. And the list of unusual ingredients goes on: At this year’s BCB Pakruojis Manor Distillery will launch its latest drink – an eau de vie blend distilled from beer and carrots.

Astutto Gin – A Columbian Original

Astutto gin comprises a total of 33 botanicals – including rosemary and holy purple basil from the Columbian jungles along the Pacific coast – that give this gin its extraordinary herbal notes. Furthermore, it convinces experts with pleasant aromas of juniper and black Amazon pepper. Developed and handcrafted in Columbia this premium gin is not only made with true passion but is also finally bottled in dark brown bottles to optimally conserve its unique flavour.

Mataroa Gin Family – Made Traditionally, Enriched with Love

Established in 1924, the Melissanidi Distillery is one of the oldest in Greece. Today, the third generation leverages the valuable knowledge, old traditions and inherent passion fusing them with the best practice in modern technology to create products that live up to the demands made by just about every palate. Natural spring water from the Kaimaktsalan mountains is the most important ingredient here alongside other carefully selected raw materials. The distillery’s portfolio is made up of traditional Greek spirits, Ouzo and Tsipouro Arhontiko, plus the Mataroa family of gins: Mataroa Mediterranean Dry Gin and Mataroa Pink Gin. Be sure not to miss above all the Mediterranean taste experience of Mataroa Mediterranean Dry Gin and Mataroa Pink Gin with pomegranate and hibiscus, which have already been successfully exported to 15 countries.

Root to Fruit

Be it neat, on the rocks or as an ingredient for cocktails, long drinks or spritz – the three products from the “Root to Fruit” range captivate us with their high-profile flavour: Camela with its fruity- spicy note, Ricordino with its interplay of Mediterranean herbs and citrus fruits and Kalyx with its unique floral aroma. Their production is based exclusively on natural ingredients – from fruit and vegetables to herbs and spices. The founder behind Root to Fruit is beverage expert and specialist author Stephan Hinz, who was recently awarded the title “Navigator of the Year 2020” (Mixology Bar Awards) and “Most Innovative Bartender 2020/21” (falstaff).

Heimat Distillers – Homeland Feelings in every Sip

The young spirits manufacturer Heimat Distillers has already made a name for itself on the German spirits market with its Heimat Dry Gin. Here, the three founders and childhood friends rely on local ingredients and hand-picked botanicals such as meadow sage, thyme and apples. A brand new addition to their range is Ramero Rum, a South American quality rum.

O/Purist – Re-experience a Greek Classic

O/Purist is a project of ten well-known Greek bartenders. Together, they dreamed of evolving the traditional Greek Tsipouro for the international, modern bar scene. Thus was born Ο/Purist – a redefined Tsipouro and an adventurous Greek spirit that can be used to conjure up extraordinary cocktails.

Edelweisser Gin – Sunny Greetings from a Croatian Island

“The magic comes care of nature – we simply bottle it”. This is the motto of the Edelweisser company established by a group of outdoor enthusiasts three years ago. At its exhibition stand the start-up will present both the world’s first gin with Marasca cherry and its Dalmatian Dry Gin – launched at this year’s BCB. The London Dry-style gin is composed of ingredients from Hvar, Croatia’s sunniest island. With more than 2,700 hours of sunshine a year such ingredients as lavender blooms, olives and bitter orange give the Dalmatian Dry Gin its authentic Mediterranean flavour.

Other exciting Young Guns we can look forward to meeting at BCB include Alpen Tonic, Anker Amsterdam Spirits, Legado Distillery, Laori, Myromeni Vatos and YourBarMate.
