"Born and raised in Mississauga, I decided that since I took HAFA (Hotel and Food Administration for any non-guelphies) at Guelph I would take off to the work in the sun and sand of Jamaica. My initiation into the working world was as a Food and Beverage Trainee Manager at Sandals Negril. I gained experience in all areas of the hotel but spent majority of my time developing my management skills in the 5 restaurants and 3 bars throughout the property. This brought me to my next opportunity in the Turks and Caicos where I graduated to Restaurant Manager at the Beaches Turks and Caicos.
An opportunity to move back ""home"" to Jamaica came when I was able to re-connect with a former boss and mentor at Coyaba Beach Resort and Club in Montego Bay. Jumped at the opportunity and eventually worked my way up to Resident Manager, reporting directly into the Owners/General Managers of the property.
You cannot discount experience and being able to work for the renowned Leader in hospitality, The Ritz-Carlton, could not be turned down. I moved north to Florida (North compared to Jamaica, not the rest of North America) and worked at their Amelia Island property for just under 3 years. It was my first time NOT working directly in F&B but picked up some fantastic Rooms/Front Office experience!
Alas, Jamaica came calling my name again. I was able to get an offer to work for a start-up company based at both the International airports in Jamaica. A new experience where I was able to apply my hospitality background, both from the F&B and Rooms side. The hub of the operation is Montego Bay and I started there as GM, working up to Director of Airport Operations.
Which brings me to where I am now, Export Sales for Worthy Park Estate. I always heard, do what you love. Well I've always had a passion for exploring Rum's from across the globe and to be able to get into the Spirits industry in a country with arguably the best rum in the world, how can I complain?!
