“In my opinion BCB is the de facto European Bar Show and to be part of the team that curates the educational content is possibly the pinnacle of my career to date,” says Angus Winchester commenting on his new task, and goes on to say: “I am truly honoured to be the Director of Education for a show I have both regularly been a part of and a fan of since its creation.” A compliment that BCB Director Petra Lassahn is only too pleased to return: “We are extremely delighted to enlist Angus, one of the most experienced bar experts in the world, who has built a reputation the world over for his educational programmes. And we are already very excited to see what he will develop for Bar Convent Berlin.”
Winchester, who happened to end up in hospitality more by chance as a student in Oxford to discover his passion for bartending, has been committed to giving the sector a more professional image for years now. “You never learn less,” he is convinced. And in line with this motto the declared gin-lover has already developed numerous continuous education courses – as a Brand Ambassador for Tanqueray and as a Director of Training for Barmetrix, to name but two. With the consultancy Alconomics, which he co-founded, the convinced supporter of classic cocktails has consulted such customers as the Fontainebleau in Miami or the Mandarin Oriental in Hong Kong. And now he will develop the first 3-day educational programme exclusively for Bar Convent Berlin 2018.
“I have long been a fan of the content and methodology of the seminar selection at BCB,” says Angus Winchester adding that he plans to largely stick to the content and methodology. “In 2018, we will once again provide the audience of enlightened bartenders, owners and managers cutting-edge information delivered with passion and expertise on the topics I believe really matter.” Angus Winchester becomes part of the BCB team at the express request of Helmut Adam, Jens Hasenbein and Bastian Heuser. The three founders of Bar Convent Berlin want to retire from the daily business for reasons of time. As part of the BCB community, they will continue to support the fair with their specialist expertise. "Angus Winchester was our preferred candidate as Director of Education," says Helmut Adam. "We are convinced that under his direction BCB will once again programmatically take a leap forward." Angus inchester will therefore also be responsible for the programme of Bar Convent Brooklyn which will take place on 12 and 13 June 2018 for the first time. From 8 to 10 October, Bar Convent Berlin 2018 is expected to attract around 12,000 trade visitors from around the world.
