Nitro and cold brew conquer bars – BCB to present nightlife caffeine trends
Coffee Convent Berlin
Traditional coffee greats and young specialty roasters will introduce different cold brew varieties at the BCB at Station Berlin. For example, trade visitors can see Lavazza to try a “Coffeetail Spritz” – a cold-brew-based version of the Italian aperitivo Spritz. Röststätte Berlin will present their new premium coffee liqueur “Cold Brew X”, while Fortezza will feature “Cold Black Nitro”, which is cold-brewed for twelve hours. Melitta is fusing cold brew with superfoods – in the form of their new coffee lemonade “ffeel”. Experience not one but three versions of the new coffee trend at Philosoffee’s stand: “Nitrobrew”, a cold-extracted coffee that, mixed with nitrogen bubbles via a specially designed dispenser system, creates a fascinating waterfall effect in the glass; “Koldbrew Pure”, a light-roast, certified organic coffee soaked in cold water for 16 hours; and “Koldbrew Tonic”, which combines cold-brewed coffee with refreshing tonic water. And Berliner Kaffeerösterei will send Germany’s best bartender Atalay Aktas (who works at “Schwarze Traube” and “Die Lilie”, both in Berlin) to the BCB to create a “Cold Brew Coffee Cocktail” live onsite.
How coffee becomes the star of the bar
In addition to inspiring tastings, trade visitors can see exhibitors at their stands for a wealth of professional suggestions on how to integrate coffee into their range. Nitro dispensers and cold brew coffee makers will be on display alongside coffee grinders, drip brew methods and the art of making the perfect espresso. Naturally, a vast selection of specialty coffees will be on hand, as well: Lavazza, for example, will introduce a new Colombia drip coffee from 100% Arabica beans, with the launch timed to coincide with the BCB.
BCB programme: Concentrated coffee expertise
How can bar operators and bartenders find the right coffee for their cocktail creations? How does coffee act as a sales and innovation driver? And how can drip coffee and cold drip enrich the bar set-up? Those are just three of the exciting topics from the programme of the Coffee Convent 2018, which was jointly developed by the BCB team and the Berliner Kaffeerösterei. Among the international coffee experts who will share their first-hand knowledge will be Nicole Battefeld, head barista of Röststätte Berlin and German Barista Champion 2018; the “Coffee for Bars” pioneer Cory Andreen; Martin Hudak, senior bartender of the American Bar at the Hotel Savoy, London; and Michalis Dimitrakopoulos, the “World Coffee in Good Spirits Champion” 2016 and a barista and barista trainer at “The Underdog” in Athens.
