Distilleria Varnelli has been producing spirits since 1868 in the Marche region of Italy, in a pleasant inland area on the slopes of Monti Sibillini. The business started by the founder Girolamo Varnelli, a keen herbalist who applied his knowledge and skills to create an elixir with antimalarial and fever reducing properties, Amaro Sibilla, awarded the Gold Medal in 1909 at the International Exhibition in Turin.
At the beginning of the 20th Century, his son Antonio extended the line with additional specialties such as Caffè Moka and Varnelli Anice Secco which rapidly became the flagship of the company.
Over 150 years Distilleria Varnelli has constantly grown, introducing new products such as Amaro dell’Erborista, entering new markets and being recognized as a distinctive player in the segment of premium spirits.
Today the Varnelli heirs still own 100% of the company and run the business through a balanced blend of tradition and innovation, focusing on the utmost quality while highlighting the cultural contents inherited from the past.
VARNELLI ANICE SECCO - Uniquely Different
First awarded the Gold Medal in 1950 as “the best Italian dry anisette”, Varnelli Anice Secco is a unique flavor among the Mediterranean anise-based liquors. Since the early 20th Century the tagline on the label, A farmi preferir basta un assaggio (It hooks you at the first taste) has been promising what is really going to happen.. Surprisingly versatile, in Italy is also renowned as “the king of Caffè Corretto”. Alcoholic strength: 46% ABV
AMARO SIBILLA - Nature's gift since 1868
As at the time of the founder Girolamo Varnelli, the handcrafting process is still today based on a decoction of selected herbs, roots and barks over a wood fire. Only multiflower raw honey from Monti Sibillini is used to sweeten this blend resulting in a smooth and moderately bitter Amaro which is balanced in alcohol. A long aging and decanting period is needed to obtain the peculiar complexity in flavor and bouquet. Alcoholic strength: 34% ABV
AMARO DELL'ERBORISTA - From the Varnelli's long herbal experience
Launched almost 40 years ago by taking inspiration from the research of the founder, the herbalist Girolamo Varnelli. The fascinating opalescent appearance derives from the peculiar handcrafting process based on a decoction of botanicals and from the high content of honey. An intriguing amaro which is defined "like no other" by professionals, media and demanding consumers. Alcoholic strength: 21% ABV
CAFFE' MOKA - When espresso becomes liqueur
Since the early 1900s, this fine liqueur has been deriving its peculiar character from the real Italian espresso. According to the original recipe passed down through Varnelli family’s generations, a long period of aging is needed to obtain the distinctive intensity and richness in flavor and aromas. Alcoholic strength: 30% ABV
PUNCH FANTASIA - For a warm sense of well-being
While in Italian habits and traditions the word "punch" refers to spirits to enjoy hot in winter time to warm you up, Punch Fantasia is a much more versatile Martinique rum-based liqueur. Perfect as a neat drink to sip at room temperature, it is appreciated by bartenders as ingredient in cocktails and by pastry chefs as flavored touch to their desserts. Simply unmissable over fruit salads and gelato. Alcoholic strength: 35% ABV
