MIXOLOGY, the leading bar culture magazine for Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, was founded by professional bartenders Jens Hasenbein and Helmut Adam in 2002. From a small bartender fanzine with special content for bar professionals, it has grown over the years into a wide-reaching, incisive print and online publication.
The bimonthly print magazine, MIXOLOGY – Magazine for Bar Culture, is the core competence and the journalistic heart of MIXOLOGY Verlags GmbH. An audited circulation of 9,000 is distributed across Germany, Austria and Switzerland. In Austria and Germany the magazine is available by subscription and at well-stocked newsagents, primarily in train stations and airports.
Additionally, the annual MIXOLOGY BAR GUIDE has been published in cooperation with Tre Torri Publishing since 2012. It is a comprehensive collection of the finest temples of drinking pleasure and a guide to greatest bars in Germany, Austria, Switzerland and selected international cities.
For on-going coverage of competitions, new products and bar openings, see MIXOLOGY ONLINE. Updated daily, this platform is one of the major German-language news sources for bar professionals and connoisseurs looking for the latest on the best drinks, the newest bars, the most exciting spirits and the finest boutique beers.
The MIXOLOGY BAR AWARDS are the most important awards of the bar industry in German-speaking regions. First presented in 2007, the awards honour excellence in a variety of categories relating to the bar industry in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.
MADE IN GSA was created by MIXOLOGY Publishing in 2007 as a label for products designed and produced in German-speaking regions – Germany, Switzerland & Austria – matching the distribution areas of MIXOLOGY Magazine. Made in GSA represents home-grown and regional products with relevance to bar culture: spirits, beer, wine, sparkling wine, juice and soft drinks. An annual highlight is the Made in GSA Competition where bartenders from Germany, Austria and Switzerland compete against one another with a promotional buffet of more than sixty regional products.
The magazine’s professional expertise comes from writers with close links to the bar and beverage world; articles that are up-to-date technically and content-wise are guaranteed. Our bar heroes include: Dave Broom, Phillip Duff, Anistatia Miller and Jared Brown, Manfred Klimek, Stevan Paul and Peter Eichhorn.
MIXOLOGY is now known to a broad audience. The readership, composed mainly of bar operators, bartenders and the beverage industry in the early years is now increasingly complemented by drink lovers and bar flies, who currently make up over 30% of the readership according to a recent survey by the magazine. MIXOLOGY is today avidly read on both sides of the counter, something that is expressly welcomed by the founding team.
