Southern Comfort is a mild and sweet liqueur speciality refined with whiskey.
Its origins lie in New Orleans, where the Irish barkeeper Martin Wilkes Heron mixed a cocktail in 1874 which he called Cuffs and Buttons - as a counterpart to the then popular White Tie and Tails. In 1885, he renamed the cocktail Southern Comfort. From 1889 he filled his liqueur of the same name, which he had patented in 1898, in Memphis, Tennessee. The drink won a gold medal at the Louisiana Purchase Exposition in St. Louis in 1904.
Aromas of orange, peach, cinnamon, vanilla and dark chocolate are responsible for the unique taste of Southern Comfort and give it a taste of whiskey in a pleasant way.
Southern Comfort Black
The new Southern Comfort Black has a robust but soft whiskey typical profile with subtle spices and fruity accents and is primarily made for pure enjoyment. In contrast to the Southern Comfort Original, the taste is significantly more whiskey and less sweet. At 40% by volume, the degree of straightness is five percentage points higher than that of Southern Comfort Original.
The colour in the glass is amber, smelling of vanilla, citrus, stone fruit, oak and spices.
The taste is strong with a slightly sweet note, followed by clear oak aromas in the discreet dry aftertaste.
