Wine in Drinks: The right Way to do it!

On 22 May, the new DBU workshop series on "Wine in Drinks" started. The workshop is led by none other than Boris Gröner from the well-known "One Trick Pony" bar in Freiburg.
There are few categories that offer as much variety as wine. To take a closer look at this topic, the Deutsche Barkeeper-Union e.V. (DBU) decided to offer its own series of workshops in the category "The Taste". For this, they brought Boris Gröner, owner of the "One Trick Pony", on board, who will show the participants how to use this variety to create a new category of drinks. The workshop is also presented by "Reidemeister & Ulrichs", who provide their products, among others.
A good Mix of Theory and Practice
In the first part of the workshop, the bartenders get an introduction to the most important basics from a wine expert. This includes the various regions and grape varieties as well as the differences and special features of the wines they will be using that day.
This is followed by the second part, in which Boris steps behind the bar and shows how to optimally use the individual wines as cocktail ingredients. A total of four different wine creations will be made and then tasted together – including a non-alcoholic variant.
Successful Start in Cologne
At the start of the workshop in Cologne on 22 May, over 30 participants came together in the "Rosebud Bar" to acquire new knowledge about wine creations. Despite bright weather, which would certainly have tempted one or the other to outdoor activities, the bar was filled with interested participants and good vibes.
"I am very happy that so many people came together here in Cologne. I honestly didn't think there would be such a strong response. All the participants took part in a great way, were interested and were clearly keen on the topic," Boris says afterwards happily. The feedback from the bartenders was also positive throughout.
The second workshop followed just one day later in Munich at "Bar Garçon", which was also very popular.

Advantages of Wine Creations on the Bar Menu
Besides the preparation, Boris also explained to the participants the advantages of using wine in drinks – and there are quite a few:
You can choose from a huge selection of different grape varieties, all of which bring a completely different characteristic to the drink. In addition, there is potential for savings, as wine is often much cheaper than spirits – on top of that, no- and low-ABV drinks are currently a trend.
Another advantage: you can score points with regionality. If you use wines from your own region, you can also save CO2. And last but not least: sweet wines are also wonderfully suitable as a natural sugar substitute in drinks.
And if you are not yet convinced, you should definitely come to one of the upcoming workshops!
